Very nice ,cant go wrong with a giant stone Olmec head.

Thanks, glad you like it. I've already started coloring on it and I have both the guys completely done.

I am curious though, do you have an interest in the Olmecs? They are a pretty fascinating and enigmatic people group, or were, I guess they're gone now.

Actually I didn't know about them either until just a little bit ago. They were the first Native American civilization, and located in Mexico. I'll talk more about them whenever I post the finished colored version.

Really? So can you speak Nahuatl?

You know people have been trying to propose a link between the Aztecs, and perhaps all Mezoamerican civilizations in general, and the Egyptians due to the use of hieroglyphs and pyramids. I always thought that was a bit of a stretch but just recently I got a new idea. Everyone where I work, except for me, is Indian, and when I had my book out about the Olmecs, one of the guys saw it and started looking at it. He asked me of the Olmecs were Indians, and he went on to point at some pictures of relief carvings and said that they were done in an Indian style and that one of them reminded him of one of his gods. I thought about it for a while and I think he might be right, because the traditional southern Indian architecture also looks somewhat similar to the Mezoamerican stuff. Here is one example but you can judge more for yourself [link]
Also, the Indus valley civilizations had their own system of heiroglyphs.

My Aunt has traced back about 200 yrs back to mexico and to the
house of zitoe{back then wealthy land owners] and according to
history passed from gen. to gen. Direct dec. from Aztec noble man.
Also many of my uncles have that big squared off nose like the Olmecs and
some have the promaneat lips
and nobody is sure what they spoke.Hell i cant even speak much spanish.
Thats a interesting link though .I myself belive that the Olmecs and the maynas blend together. If you check you will find that the Aztecs absobed
many diff. tribes (all but the Spanish) and there some evidencn that they
travel as far North as WIS.

sorry I dont write with the eloquence that you do.
And I put a few of my Aztec pic up.You inspired me

That's cool. So when did your ancestors come to the US? Mine came in the early 1900's. For certain the actual people of the Olmec society did not just disappear, there are probably plenty of people alive today descended from that original stock. They may have just faded or perhaps blended into the Mayan civilization. One thing that for certain is that the Mayans borrowed the Olmec calendar, the "Long Count."

I'm glad I could inspire you, I'll go through and check out your uploads.
