The Monster of Peladon by jmsnooks The Monster of Peladon by jmsnooks
The Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith from the Dr. Who series. It's the Doctor in his 3rd incarnation (John Pertwee), who happens to be one of my favorites. The story is "The Monster of Peladon" which was the major catalyst that got me into the series.

So this was done with colored pencil, and it's really just different sketches from the series superimposed over one another, nothing too fancy. Basically I paused the screen and took separate screenshots, the first was of the Doctor and Sarah Jane after they get dumped into a pit. then I took a shot of the monster, and another of Thalira. Thalira didn't turn out so good btw (top right), but I drew her after a long sleepless night so I wasn't myself. Anyways, I drew the Doctor and SJ first, and since it was a high contrast image with highlights on a black background I decided to put some hints of other images in the background. So this was basically just a big scientific experiment. I did add the flare on the sonic scredriver because I felt the image needed something else. I had to use a lot of black for the background, so I bought one of those things that's just a pig chunk of pigment for coloring on a massive scale.

Jon Pertwee always brings a smile to may face. I have discovered his incarnation of the Doctor late in my life. I look forward to each dvd release with the excitement of a little kid though. Nice image Man!

Thanks man. Jon Pertwee used to be my favorite incarnation, but I also really like Patrick Troughton and Matt Smith.

big step up from what you usually drew 5 years back. I especially like the dark shadows of everyone's face it sets the mood

Thanks man. It's been a while since I heard from you. How is everything?

Actually I've been away from deviant art for a while myself. In my case I've been looking for a job but I'm thinking I'll start paying it more attention again.

He yea man I missed the old times...been having hits of nostalgia like there's no tomorrow these this past year. Everything is alright, just transferred from University to College taking a Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist assistant program and its pretty intense. How is the job search going ? Is there anyway we can keep in touch besides deviant art? because I sometimes neglect to check it myself time to time.

I can understand that. Yea it was fun back in the day. My life hasn't been so good lately with having moved back in with my parents and all that. I mean, they don't really do anything to bother me but it's just annoying to have to live with them again at my age.

Sounds interesting, what made you decide to do that? I always pictured you as pursuing a military career.

The job search is not going well. I think you have my email but if not I'll send it to you in a note. Actually I have been away from DA for weeks, possibly months. I just recently decided to come back.

I like the nice, dark contrasts with the shadows and everything. You must have been really patient to get all that black on there.

Actually it took very little time because I had a large chunk of black colored pencil pigment. You can get large chunks of pigment at art supply stores that sell Prismacolor.

It sure is. That's why I got that big huge chunk of black pigment, but still, it's not something I would care to do again.

Yeesh. Yeah, um, can't blame you for that one. I'd have said "screw this" and gone lazy with the Photoshop fill bucket long ago.

I prefer avoiding the fill tool myself, but I'd definitely have lazed out here. Well, kudos for your determination in actually filling that all in with pencil.

The episode was called "The Monster of Peladon" but the actual monstor is in the bottom left, it's one of the grey things in the background.

It's not the clothes that make the man it's the man who makes the clothes. Sometimes you just have to be yourself regardless of what others might think and then you're the one setting the examples not the one following them.
